Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ,
I want to take a moment to say a big thank you for the tremendous outpouring of prayers and support I have received this past week. A special thank you to the incredible team of staff, volunteers, and priests who have stepped up to continue to lead our parish on mission in my absence.
The doctors are treating me for a medical condition related to my pancreas. I am still in the hospital, but am on the path to recovery and am hopeful to be released soon.
Please continue to pray for me as I continue to pray for all of you!
Peace,
Fr. Jerry
If seasons were flavors, Ordinary Time would be vanilla - with some green food coloring! As any good cook will tell you, vanilla has its own often underrated flavor with its own nuances and characteristics! Ordinary Time is similar.
"Ordinary Time, generally speaking, leaves us to our own routines, and our own discipline. It's the time when we have to work to integrate our spirituality with the everyday: work, school, vacation, the ebb and flow of our lives.
Fortunately, we have help and assistance with that task of integration. We have something that provides the support and spiritual nourishment we need to get through the everyday routine of life. Sundays, especially during this vanilla season, should be part of the rhythm of life that keeps our spirituality rooted in real life." (Fr. Larry Rice, CSP)
If your life feels a little out of synch, driven by external events rather than by your own priorities, it's a good time to consider re-engaging in prayer and other activities that help keep Sunday as a holy day.
Most Blessed Sacrament Parish has some wonderful prayer opportunities to help parishioners and families re-focus on faith routines during Ordinary Time.
The Feast of the Presentation of Our Lord is celebrated on February 2. Did you know that many families keep their nativities on display until this day?
This is also the time for Candlemas (Blessing of the Candles), when parishes may have a prayer service; families bring candles to be blessed for use in their homes during the year.
Stay tuned for more information on how to connect with these two experiences in the coming weeks.
Peace,
Fr. Jerry
