Each person's life story is holy. A Spiritual Companion is one who is willing to walk alongside you wherever you are in your spiritual journey.
Spiritual direction is a Christian spiritual practice. It is a "holy conversation," where one person (the directee) seeks out another (the director) for guidance and support in the life of faith. Spiritual direction and companionship is a habit of faith that is alive and well throughout today's world - including in our own Diocese.
The short answer: anyone! Spiritual Direction is a tool that helps us grow closer to God by giving us the time to look at our personal stories - past, present, and future - in light of God's activity in our lives.
After scheduling your appointment, you will meet at the MBS Parish Office in a room that is set aside for Spiritual Direction.
Your meeting will usually last for one hour. After the initial meeting - where you and your companion both determine if you think the relationship will be a good fit - meetings usually reoccur monthly (or at your desire).
Each session usually begins with a short prayer recognizing God's presence and asking for His guidance. The Holy Spirit is the true Director - the unseen guest who is always present during the sessions.
I am not a counselor or therapist. It is my ministry to be a companion and a listening presence to help people notice, discern, and respond to God's invitation. I provide a place for confidential and spiritual conversation.
I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Human Growth & Development and a Master's Degree in World Spirituality. I also have obtained a certification in Spiritual Companionship from Holy Family Silver Lake College. I have my own Spiritual Director and receive ongoing mentorship in a Spiritual Directors' Peer Group.
